Anesthesia & Surgical Safety

Why does the clinic use sedation instead of general anesthesia for rhinoplasty?

Published

Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.

A

Rhinoplasty — including cases involving rib cartilage harvesting — doesn't require the deeper systemic effects of general anesthesia to be performed safely and comfortably. Sedation anesthesia keeps you completely comfortable and unaware throughout the procedure, while generally involving a gentler recovery than general anesthesia, without the grogginess, nausea, or longer wake-up time some patients experience afterward.

This approach applies consistently across our surgical scope, regardless of whether your case involves tip work alone or a more extensive procedure with rib cartilage — the anesthesia approach doesn't change based on complexity in the way some patients might expect.

Consultation Tip

If you're comparing clinics and one mentions general anesthesia for a procedure similar to yours, it's a reasonable question to ask why — the answer should relate to genuine surgical necessity, not just standard practice at that clinic.
