TYPE 02 — Hump Nose
Hump Nose Rhinoplasty
How is a hump nose corrected?
Surgery that refines the protruding section and reconnects the bridge line. Fewer cases need osteotomy than you might think.
Who this is for
- A nose whose bridge bulges in the middle in profile
- A tip that looks droopy because of the bump
- A nose that gives a strong, harsh impression from the side
A note from Dr. Kim Hyung-taek
After years of consultations, I've noticed that hump-nose patients often look strong or even gloomy, so a large share carry a real complex about it.
Many also arrive worried, assuming the bone must be cut (osteotomy and the like).
In reality, hump noses rarely require osteotomy. Most cases involve gently smoothing the high point and adjusting the rest of the nose to match that height.
Because the bridge is already reasonably high, a great deal can be improved without any artificial implant — which is why this is one of the most satisfying rhinoplasty procedures.

How the surgery works

STEP 01
Refine the protruding bone and cartilage to smooth the bridge line

STEP 02
If needed, augment the glabella (RIBFIT™ or silicone, discussed in advance)

STEP 03
Combine tip cartilage grafting if the tip droops

STEP 04
Osteotomy only when the bridge looks wide
Recovery
Recovery varies slightly depending on the scope of surgery and combined techniques. Below is the typical course.
- Day 5
Stitch removal
If only the hump was refined, there may be no stitches at all. With tip surgery they come out on day 5 — day 7 with rib cartilage.
- Day 5–7
Tape & splint removal
Cold compresses for 4 days; the fixing tape and splint are removed on day 5–7.
- 2 months
Avoid pressing bridge & frowning
Until the refined bridge settles, avoid pressing on it and habitual frowning for 2 months.

Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.
Frequently asked questions
No. Osteotomy is needed when the problem is width, not height. Bone that has been smoothed down does not grow back.
What matters is less how much is shaved and more how the line is reconnected afterwards. We preview the profile line with simulation at consultation.
Without osteotomy, there is almost no bruising. With osteotomy, bruising around the eyes can last 1–2 weeks.
