When can I resume exercise or sports?

Published

Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.

A

Light activity, such as gentle walking, can typically resume within the first week. Moderate cardio can usually be reintroduced gradually around 2-3 weeks, while more strenuous exercise, heavy weightlifting, and any contact sports should generally wait until around 4-6 weeks, once initial healing is further along.

The exact timeline depends on your specific surgical plan — patients who had bone work generally need a bit more caution than those with cartilage-only procedures, particularly around activities that could risk impact to the face.

Consultation Tip

If you have a specific sport or fitness routine you're eager to return to, mention it during your consultation — Dr. Kim can give you a timeline tailored to that specific activity rather than a general estimate.
