When can I fly back to my home country after surgery?

Published

Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.

Most patients are cleared to fly around 7-10 days after surgery, once the splint has been removed and Dr. Kim has confirmed your early healing is progressing well during your follow-up visit.

For longer flights, some patients choose to wait slightly longer, since cabin pressure changes can temporarily increase the sensation of congestion or pressure in the nose during the more sensitive early healing period. This isn't dangerous, but it can simply be more comfortable to wait a few extra days for a very long-haul flight.

For a full breakdown of exactly when you're cleared to fly and what the process looks like, see our guide: When Can I Fly Home After Rhinoplasty?

Consultation Tip

If you have an especially long flight home, ask Dr. Kim whether waiting a couple of extra days would make your journey more comfortable, given your specific surgical plan.
