How is nose width narrowed during surgery?

Published

Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.

A

Nose width can refer to two different things — the bony bridge width or the width of the nostrils/nasal base — and each is addressed with a different technique. Bridge width is typically narrowed through controlled osteotomies (precise, planned fractures of the nasal bones) that bring the bone structure inward to a narrower, more refined width.

Nostril or base width, on the other hand, is addressed through alarplasty — carefully removing a small amount of tissue at the base of the nostrils to narrow the flare, with incisions placed in the natural crease where the nostril meets the cheek to keep resulting scars as discreet as possible.

Consultation Tip

Be specific about which "width" concerns you most — the bony bridge or the nostril flare — since these involve different techniques and it helps Dr. Kim address exactly what bothers you.
