How is nasal length shortened or lengthened?

Published

Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.

A

Nasal length is primarily controlled at the tip, through how much the septum and surrounding cartilage are trimmed or extended, along with how much the tip is rotated upward or downward. Shortening the nose typically involves trimming excess septal length and rotating the tip slightly upward, while lengthening involves extending the septum with a cartilage graft and adjusting rotation to bring the tip slightly downward.

Length is judged in relation to the rest of your face, not as an isolated measurement — proportions like the distance from your brow to your nose base, and your overall facial thirds, inform what length actually looks balanced on you. This is one of the details Dr. Kim evaluates carefully during your in-person consultation, alongside your CT imaging.

Consultation Tip

Ask Dr. Kim how your target nose length relates to your facial proportions specifically — a well-planned length should always connect back to your overall face shape, not just a number in isolation.
