How long until numbness in my nose goes away?

Published

Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.

A

Some degree of numbness or reduced sensation, particularly at the tip, is normal after rhinoplasty, since the surgery involves working around small nerve fibers in the skin. Most sensation gradually returns over the following months, with the majority of patients noticing substantial improvement within 3-6 months.

In some cases, subtle areas of reduced sensation, particularly right at the tip, can persist longer — sometimes up to a year — before fully normalizing, similar to the extended timeline for other final tip refinements. This is a normal part of nerve healing and not typically a cause for concern.

Consultation Tip

If numbness feels unusually persistent or you notice it's not gradually improving at all over several months, mention this during a follow-up — while typically normal, it's always worth having Dr. Kim confirm your specific healing pattern.
