Nasal Tip Refinement

Can a bulbous (round) nose tip be refined?

Published

Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.

A

Yes — a bulbous or rounded nasal tip is one of the most common concerns addressed in tip plasty, and it's generally caused by wide, weak, or poorly defined lower lateral cartilages (the cartilage that shapes the tip), sometimes combined with thicker skin that further softens definition.

The standard approach involves narrowing and reshaping these cartilages through precise suturing, bringing the domes closer together to create a more defined point. Dr. Kim takes this a step further: rather than relying on suturing alone, he builds an additional strut of cartilage between the two domes to provide extra structural support. This gives the tip a more stable, durable shape over the long term — reducing the chance that the cartilages gradually relax back toward their original width, which can otherwise happen with suturing alone over the years.

Consultation Tip

Bring reference photos showing the level of tip definition you're hoping for — this helps Dr. Kim gauge whether your skin thickness will support a very sharply defined tip, or whether a more moderate refinement is the realistic target.
