When can I shower or wash my face normally?

Published

Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.

You can typically shower from the body down starting the day after surgery, but you'll need to avoid getting your splint wet, which generally means keeping direct water spray away from your face during the first week while the splint is in place.

For facial cleansing during this period, gently wiping around the splint with a damp cloth is typically fine, avoiding the splint itself. Once the splint is removed around day 7, normal face washing can generally resume, though still with a gentle touch around the surgical area for a bit longer while healing continues.

Consultation Tip

Ask Dr. Kim or your coordinator for specific facial cleansing guidance tailored to your splint type and surgical plan — small details like this are easy to overlook but genuinely matter for keeping the area clean during healing.
