Functional Rhinoplasty & Breathing

What are signs I might have a functional nasal problem, not just cosmetic concerns?

Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.

Common signs include difficulty breathing through one or both nostrils, especially noticeable during exercise or while lying down, chronic nasal congestion that doesn't respond well to allergy medication, frequent sinus infections, snoring or noticeably disrupted sleep, and a sensation of one nostril being persistently more blocked than the other.

If any of these sound familiar, even if your main reason for reaching out was cosmetic, it's worth mentioning during your consultation — many patients don't realize a functional issue is present until Dr. Kim's physical examination reveals it, since some people simply adjust to breathing difficulty over time without recognizing it as abnormal.

Consultation Tip

Even if you're confident your concerns are purely cosmetic, mention any of these symptoms during your consultation just to be safe — Dr. Kim's physical exam will confirm either way, and it costs nothing to ask.
