What materials are used to build the nasal bridge?

Published

Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.

A

The most common materials are the patient's own cartilage — taken from the nasal septum, the ear, or the rib, depending on how much is needed — and, less frequently today, silicone implants. Each has a different profile: cartilage integrates with your own tissue and tends to feel and age more naturally, while silicone offers a more standardized shape but carries different long-term considerations, including a higher chance of visibility or shifting in patients with thinner skin.

Dr. Kim's clinic has particularly deep experience with cartilage-based augmentation, including a proprietary rib cartilage technique (Ribfit) developed specifically to address common long-term issues like warping and absorption that can affect standard rib cartilage grafts.

Consultation Tip

Ask Dr. Kim which material he recommends for your specific case and why — the right choice depends heavily on how much augmentation you need and your existing cartilage availability.
