Rib Cartilage & Ribfit Technique

What is diced cartilage and how is it used?

Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.

A

Diced cartilage refers to cartilage that's been cut into small pieces rather than shaped as a single solid block. This approach is well-supported in published rhinoplasty research, which consistently shows that diced or particulated cartilage carries a meaningfully lower rate of long-term resorption compared to larger carved pieces — one systematic review found partial resorption rates of under 2% with diced techniques.

Diced cartilage is typically used to smooth contour irregularities, refine the shape of the bridge, or fill in areas that need subtle volume without the stiffness of a single solid piece. Our clinic's Ribfit technique takes this approach further by processing the particles even more finely, allowing for denser compression and a lower absorption rate than standard diced cartilage methods.

Consultation Tip

If contour refinement or a subtle finishing touch is part of your plan, ask whether diced cartilage — or our finer Ribfit particles — is being used for that specific step, and why.
