What can I do to reduce swelling faster?

Published

Outcomes and side effects vary from person to person. Bleeding, infection, swelling and asymmetry may occur. Please consult our medical team before making a decision.

The most effective, well-supported strategies are simple and consistent: keeping your head elevated, even while sleeping, for the first couple of weeks; applying cold compresses gently around (not directly on) the surgical area during the first 48-72 hours; and staying well-hydrated, which supports your body's natural healing processes.

Reducing sodium intake for the first couple of weeks can also help minimize fluid retention, which contributes to swelling. Beyond these general measures, swelling reduction largely follows its own biological timeline — there's no way to dramatically accelerate it beyond a certain point, and being patient with the process matters more than any single trick.

Consultation Tip

Ask Dr. Kim for his specific recommendations based on your surgical plan — some techniques, like bone work, tend to involve more initial swelling, and his guidance can be tailored to what your particular recovery will look like.
